Digital Empowerment Centres and Buses/ Online training
Digital Empowerment Centres and Buses are located in the vicinity of slum communities and other low-income areas. The centres are equipped with desktops and are internet-enabled. The presence of a digital empowerment centre close to the slum community changes the dynamics of that community.
Citizens in the age group of 14-60 are enrolled in the Digital centres. Each learner undergoes the 40 hours curriculum over a 20-day period. Alumni of the program continue visiting the centres for strengthening the practice of accessing various digital tools. During the COVID19 situation, an online training model has been successfully adopted. Citizens are keener than ever to be digitally literate and enrolment in the online course is at a high level.
Collective Action
To achieve the goal of large scale Digital empowerment, a multi-stakeholder approach has been adopted, with active participation by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Corporates, NGOs, Natarajan Education Society (NES), NASSCOM Foundation and Pune City Connect.
PMC undertakes capital expenditure (centre locations, refurbishment, equipment) while corporate donors cover the operational costs. NASSCOM Foundation and NES are knowledge Partners. Pune City Connect and its program implementation partners, manage day-to-day operations. Pune City Connect has overall responsibility for program monitoring and quality.
